Four and a half years ago, exactly 1666 days, I traveled around on the last general election polling day to document a few polling stations and bits of electoral signage around my constituency.
Today I repeated the same, travelling to Mullion, Lizard, Helston, Falmouth, and Truro, as well as my home village of Cury. This covers two different constituencies both of which, if polls are correct, are about to replace their incumbent MP with one from a different party.
The general attitude across the country, with an expectation to see a Conservative near-wipeout, seems repeated here, with Conservative signs few and far between. St Ives, a Lib Dem-Tory marginal constituency, is dominated by Andrew George’s signs, while Truro and Falmouth are seas of the red signs belonging to Jayne Kirkham, popular Cornwall Councillor who is contesting the seat as the Labour & Co-Operative candidate. While I’m sure there’s some around somewhere, in all the hunting around today I didn’t come across a single board for any of the other parties, aside from some representation for Dave Laity, an Independent candidate in St Ives.
